Year 6-7 Transition
More information about the transition from year 6 to year 7 to follow soon. Please contact the school if you have any questions, or use our enquiry form
The Transition Process
We would normally hold two transition days in July each year, which take the form of face to face meetings with form tutors, students, and their parents/carers. However, this year that has not been possible. We are currently working with the Primary schools in the Holy Spirit MAC, with some students joining us to have their Primary lessons on-site at St Thomas More. We are aware that it may leave our non-feeder students feeling like they are missing out. To address this we are providing all of the students who don't have their primary school lessons at St Thomas More, but who are coming to us in September, the opportunity to 'Meet your Tutor' on the 15th July - you will automatically receive an appointment time to this event.
Having sent out the registration booklets to all of the parents on our list, I am pleased to say that we have had most of them back, which is amazing. We are in the process of liaising with individual schools to discuss SEND requirements and Safeguarding concerns in order to allow us to better understand your child's needs prior to them starting.
We are currently updating the school website to include up to date information, which will also be relayed to parents. In light of the current Coronavirus pandemic, the information we receive is changing frequently and this means that we are regularly reviewing our strategies and approaches. For this reason, the content on the website will be updated often and you should check back periodically to get the most up to date information.
Below you will find information that relates to the school uniform, starting dates and times, general term times, as well as supplementary resources to help students with the transition.
As a school, we use Google Classroom as a vehicle for delivering lessons and homework and all students have been set up with their school emails and Google Classroom log in details. We will be inviting them to join their form group, remotely, in the near future. This will give them the opportunity to interact with others in their forms prior to their Tutor meeting in July and we hope that this will allow them to feel welcomed into the St Thomas More community.

Message from the Head of Year
Dear Students and Parent/ Carer,
I would like to personally congratulate you on receiving your place here at St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth Form College. I know that you have put a lot of hard work and effort into securing your place, and it is the start of an amazing 7 year-long journey that will open up opportunities that will shape the rest of your lives.
We are all looking forward to seeing you and it may seem a bit daunting starting a new school in September, especially in the current climate of social distancing and Coronavirus, but don’t worry, the staff and the current pupils are all here to support you and make sure that it all goes as smoothly as possible. There are bound to be things that you are not sure about and we have created a little video that can hopefully answer some of your questions. That being said, if you are still concerned, or if you have any other questions all you have to do is get in touch with me (firstname.lastname@example.org). After the first week or so, you will have found your way around the school, you will have made new friends, and will have a good grasp on the school routine – so there is no need to worry.
I know that you will be keen to know which form group you are in, and who will be in your form with you, but due to the current issues of social distancing, it might not be possible to get you to come into the school to meet up with your new form. But never fear, the technology wizards have been hard at work and we will be giving you and your parents/ carers the opportunity to meet up with your form group, virtually! We have already set up your school emails and Google
Classroom accounts and you will be receiving the details to these in due course.
When you meet them, be it in Google Classroom or at the face-to-face meeting, you will also be able to tell your form tutor, any and all of the amazing talents that you have as they will be the first person that you see each day, and will be the first person you go to if you don’t know something. Don’t forget that I am always there to help you and support you too. When you get into your Google Classroom, you will get to meet your form tutor and the rest of your form group, and as a form, you will get to take part in some fun challenges over the summer months and earn form points. The form with the most points will start the year with the form cup which each form group will have the opportunity to win back every half term.

We use the Schoolwear Centre to provide our students with their uniforms, and they have provided us with some additional information with regards to fitting and sourcing.
Students will be expected to wear their school uniforms. Should you have any issues making appointments or acquiring the uniform please let us know, so that we can help. Contact Mr. Chris Goodings (Head of Year 7) with any questions: email@example.com

Transition Resources and Materials
We use Google Classroom as a learning platform at St Thomas More and all new year 7 students have been set up on our system. We have some fun learning activities that your child can take part in over the summer if they wish. It will also give them the opportunity to meet other members of their form group, as well as their tutor, prior to starting.
Your child should have received their log-in details either when they attended with their primary school (MAC Feeder Schools), or when they came to the 'Meet your Tutor' event on 15th July.
If for any reason you don't have them, please get in touch with the Head of Year: firstname.lastname@example.org
