Health & Social Care

 

Subject Intent: 

 

At KS4 you will gain an introduction to the health and social care sector which will support progression to higher education or training, employment or an apprenticeship. This course will give you a hands-on taste for the health and social care sector and it will give you the skills and confidence to take your next steps. You will apply your learning to real life scenarios.

BTec Unit List:

60% of the course will be internally assessed through assignments.

 

Component 1 coursework: you will write a report which assesses the impact of different factors on a person’s growth and development.

Component 2 coursework: you will carry out a review on how the health and social care services in your area meet the specific needs of an individual.

Component 3 coursework: this is externally assessed and allows you to put your learning into practice through real life scenarios. You will be asked to assess the health and wellbeing of a person by answering questions. Then you will create a health and wellbeing improvement plan for this person.

 

40% of the course will be externally assessed by the exam board in a 2 hour exam at the end of the course.

  1. Human Lifespan Development –how we grow and develop through our lives
  2. Health and Social Services and Values –how the health and social care sector works and the care values that lie at the core of it.
  3. Health and Wellbeing- you will create a health and wellbeing improvement plan for an individual.
