Chaplaincy at St Thomas More

The Chapel at St Thomas More is at the centre of school life. The door is open throughout the day to allow students and staff the opportunity for silent prayer and reflection in the presence of Jesus Christ in the tabernacle.

Throughout the school year we celebrate form group, year group and whole school liturgies and Masses, marking important feast days, Holy days of Obligation, seasons of the Church and gathering together at the beginning and end of each term to reflect and celebrate together.

We pray together each morning to prepare for the day ahead, we pray the Angelus, making our day centred on Christ. During registration we pray together as a form group.  It’s easy to get caught up with the busy routine of daily life, but for centuries Catholics have paused from their work at set times each day to pray the Angelus- reflecting on Mary’s ‘Yes’ to God’s call, praying that we too may be ready to let God work through us.

Every week, each year group takes part in collective worship, listening to the Sunday Gospels, singing and responding to the weekly theme.

During the week there are various activities and liturgies available for students and staff to lead and participate. As well as a staff Catholic Life Committee, we have a Catholic Voice Committee made up of students from across all year groups. This group plans and organises events at school as well as supporting with the monitoring and evaluation of Catholic Life and Collective Worship.

In October we encourage everyone to participate in the CAFOD Fast Day. Throughout November we will be remembering and praying for our loved ones and members of our communities who have passed away, also remembering and praying for victims of war and violence throughout the world. During Advent we set daily challenges and reflections for everyone to focus on this special season.
