St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
Dear Parents and Carers
The months which stretched before us last September have passed at first steadily and more recently very quickly and a well-earned break is looming. The last week of term is always exceedingly busy as we try to celebrate what has been achieved during the year by the pupils while also allowing a little recreation especially in the form of the end of year house competitions.
This week we had a careers event for year 10 pupils to start the process of them thinking about their plans beyond GCSE. This is particularly important since they are the first cohort for whom the raising the participation age applies which means they must continue in education or training of some sort up to the age of 18. The evening focussed on vocational progression routes. There will be other events for other academic routes in due course.
This event followed quickly Year 10 undertaking work experience. They have spoken very enthusiastically about the various placements and the reports about them were very positive. Year 10s often think that a great deal of time remains before them but we will be striving to get them to understand how quickly the next two terms will pass. They need to be thinking as if they are already in year 11.
It is sad to have to say that a number of staff are moving on to new challenges of various sorts and we wish them well for the future. I would like to draw your attention to the retirement of 4 members of the teaching staff who have given long and excellent service to the school. They will not all be disappearing completely but I would like to say a massive thank you on behalf of the school to Mrs Barnett, Mrs Collins, Miss Klecun and Mr Pape who collectively have devoted 143 years to the school. In addition my secretary Mrs Hextall who is known to many of you is retiring after 25 years. My thanks and appreciation are extended to her also. The staff will be having a retirement Mass in their honour next week.
Thank you once again for your active support of the school this year and I hope you enjoy the extra family time that the summer holidays bring.
St Thomas More School is committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
