St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
The most intensive term in the school’s calendar is now coming to an end and staff and pupils deserve to look forward to the Easter break. For students preparing for public exams they and their families will be managing the process of finding time to share together while putting in place plans to revise and prepare for the challenges ahead.
In assemblies to exam year groups I often emphasise that forward planning is crucial to their results but that leaning on others such as teachers and relatives for support is still an important part of the process. The exam process is certainly something that the whole family experiences too. The students need to be mature enough to look for areas of their studies that they may not yet have mastered and seek advice sooner rather than later. It is vital that they avoid the temptation to focus only on the topics they already know well.
Charities afternoon saw pupils involved in a host of activities varying from studying Japanese culture to learning how to put up a tent for the Duke of Edinburgh expedition; from watching films and playing sport to dodgeball. It was good to see the school "at rest and at play" in a short break from the intensity of lessons, although Year 11’s involvement was limited to wearing their own clothes to make a charitable contribution since they were engaged in revision and exam preparation.
After the Easter holidays the pupils will be allowed to wear their summer uniform. Please note, however that there is no relaxation of the rules regarding the wearing of hoodies, non-uniform jumpers or tracksuit tops as alternative to proper outside coats. These are considered too casual for school and I thank you in advance for your cooperation.
I wish you all a happy and holy Easter.
