St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
It has been a pleasure this week to receive good news about a number of events and pupil achievements.
Megan Jordan Year 10 and Erin McPolin are participating in an international Irish dancing competition in Glasgow and Bradley Nolan Year 8 has been selected to compete in the International Children’s games in Alkmaar, Holland in June. It is excellent to be involved in high level performance like this.
I was also delighted to receive a letter of commendation about Keiran Balding year 11 who went back to his primary school to give a motivational presentation to year 6 pupils which went down very well indeed.
As you can see from Mrs Barnett’s report in this newsletter the under-15 girls’ netball team had an excellent victory in the Area Tournament yesterday emerging as champions. This is a well-deserved reward for their efforts in training which they continue even in very inclement weather. It is also a sweet success after three years of narrow near misses. I will be delighted if Everton show the same determination!! The year 7 boys participated in a County 5-a-side tournament and although there was no silverware for them this time they learned a great deal from the experience. If success comes too easily they do not learn resilience and determination so I hope that they are not too disappointed.
The Alton Castle retreat went very well last week and the pupils I spoke to about it enjoyed the experience and found it thought-provoking too.
Years 12 and 13 have been having mock exams this week which are an important staging post in their progress towards what we hope will be continued success at AS and A level. University offers are arriving regularly now for year 13 and exciting days lie ahead for them. Like year 11 the students will have a formal results morning just after half-term to help them anticipate what might be in store for them in August.
And finally, a note for your diary. The parents meeting with regard to our plans to form a multi-academy company with our local Catholic primary schools will take place at 6pm in the school hall on Wednesday 11th February. The school show rehearsals will be over by then.
St Thomas More School is committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
