St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
Since my last newsletter the school has had two events that are very important in our calendar. The first was our Prize-Giving ceremony for students who took their GCSE exams last summer. It is always a wonderful occasion to see students receive a public accolade for their achievements and it is a chance to catch up with past students and their families, those who are in the Sixth form and those who are not.
Our guest speaker this year was local author and past pupil Rosie Goodwin who spoke very positively about the importance of trying different things but remaining true to your dreams and to show determination and perseverance in all things. This message complements well the growth mind set to which I refer periodically which we hope you are also encouraging at home. This idea means that students are expected to try to have a positive mental attitude at all times. We want students to show grit and in particular to be open to learning from mistakes and not be afraid of making them. Later this term we will have a ceremony also for last year’s Year 13.
On Wednesday evening we had the Sixth Form Open Evening which drew even higher numbers than last year’s best ever. The positive feedback from parents and potential students was very heartening and I was very pleased to hear current students speak in such proud and glowing terms about their work here. Certainly on my regular tours of the school and college I am always impressed by the commitment they show to their studies and how they respond to the excellent challenges set by staff.
I would like to draw to your attention that we are not having a PTA Christmas raffle this year but will have an own clothes day soon. We would like to add a raffle to our charity drive prior to the Easter holidays.
I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
St Thomas More School is committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
