A message from the Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
This week began with the good news that the year 7 and 8 girls’ netball teams had both done extremely well in a weekend tournament in Shrewsbury, Year 8 won a thirty strong competition and the year 7 team won their competition outright. My thanks go to Miss Riley and Mrs Barnett who gave the girls the opportunity to compete with teams drawn from such a wide area. As you know from previous newsletters it is a source of pride for the school to be able to do well against teams from all around the country in many different disciplines. It was also pleasing to have very complimentary things said about the conduct of the participants in the Paris trip.
I have had a wide range of visitors to this school in recent weeks many of whom have commented on the strong sense of togetherness that they have noticed. That was certainly evident as Year 11 lined up outside the gym for the first full year written exam of the season on Monday morning. By this time next week they will have had their Leavers Mass at Our Lady's which is always a special event for them. Year 13 will have their final day Mass on Thursday which will have an extra sense of poignancy as they step out into the world beyond St Thomas More.
My final comment is based on the surprise in a pupil's voice when I asked him how an exam had gone. He replied "It was alright actually. I was lucky." It reminded me of the famous quote from golfer Jack Nicklaus who noted that the harder he practised the luckier he got!! Let us all say a little prayer and keep our fingers crossed that the pupils get the rewards their efforts deserve.
As there won’t be a newsletter next week I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable half-term break.
Yours sincerely
F Hickey
