St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
This week began with the very pleasing news that the under-18s girls’ volleyball team reached the quarter finals of the national tournament last weekend. It really is a superb achievement to be competing at such good level. Well done to all concerned.
On Wednesday year 11 students had the opportunity to have an interview with members of the business and enterprise community. The students wore formal clothing rather than their uniform for the day and the feedback from the experience was really positive from all parties. It fitted in well with my comments last week about how quickly the year is passing for them already. They have their options fair this coming Thursday and their mock GCSEs are looming fast. Parents evening last night was very well attended and everyone is focused on the challenge ahead.
Today Year 10 students are going to Birmingham to visit the Skills Show. Small groups have gone in the past and spoken so positively about the event that we have widened our offer to the whole year group. We all know that having a focus and sense of direction is so important in helping the students to see the bigger picture about their exam preparation and where all their efforts may lead. This visit, their work experience in the summer term and the careers guidance they receive in Keystage 4 combine to play an important part in broadening their horizons and helping them to aspire to the best careers possible.
Tuesday is important for the work we are doing to increase students’ understanding of the electoral process through elections for the school council. The Council forms an important part of the student voice in the school and, along with the prefect system, has a very important role to play in the life of the school.
I wish you all a pleasant weekend.
